Many Tabu fans saw her performance in Mahesh Manjrekar’s Astitva . The director teamed up again with his favourite actress.
Now ten years after Astitva , Tabu performing with Manjrekar for a powerful unconventional film titled White which takes the theme of a middleclass Indian woman’s right to assert her identity and her sexuality even further than Astitva .
“It is a bolder look at the feelings, dreams and nightmares of an Indian housewife than anything attempted on screen,” Mahesh is quoted to have said about the film.
Mahesh says when the script was being written and the leading character was getting fleshed out, he could only see Tabu playing the role.
The filmmaker adds, “Earlier, the risks regarding women’s films were harder to take. Today I am ready to make ‘White’ and I am sure the producers believe in my concept and attempt.”
